DEVELOPING MATHEMATICS FOR PUPILS WITH SEND WORK GROUP
from
CASTLE SCHOOL /THE CAM ACADEMY TRUST/MATHS HUB
This programme involves mainstream and special schools working together to improve SEND provision in mathematics. Participants will improve their understanding of different areas within SEND and the pedagogy that is associated with working with these students. They will explore ways to encourage reasoning and the use of manipulatives, providing a different approach to working with SEND students across mainstream and special schools. The pedagogy introduced and any resources trialled, will support the principles of teaching for mastery.
AUDIENCE:
All teachers and HLTAs who teach or deliver mathematics programmes within primary, secondary and special schools. (more details in flyer)

- Presentation on: What is a Maths Hub? How can I get involved?
All workshops will be delivered by practicing teachers who are Cambridge Maths Hub
primary teaching for mastery Work Group leaders.
- Using subitising to build number sense
- Using a class journal to encourage and reflect upon mathematical thinking
- Teaching maths in a mixed-age classroom
- Introduction to additive reasoning using the mastery 5 Big Ideas

Are you eager to develop your subject knowledge in maths and ensure teaching for mastery is embedded across the school?
Here is a final opportunity to join the funded teaching for mastery programme 2020:
Over 60% of Cambridgeshire schools have now participated in the teaching for mastery programme and, across the whole country, more that 8000 schools have engaged. An evaluation report of the impact of the work so far can be found here.
Here's some of the feedback from our Mastery Readiness programme this year.
What have you learnt?
"So much. I learnt more about my role as a [maths] coordinator and what to look at in my school in order to make improvement."
"I learnt more about the mastery curriculum and how I can implement that into my school (what that looks like/what that means)."
"I learnt how to create effective medium term plans and how to use stem sentences within lessons and I gained many new ideas for teaching in the classroom both from other teacher on the course and the PD Lead,"
New to Teaching Maths - EYFS

NEW TO TEACHING MATHS - EYFS
This course offers new practitioners and those with limited experience the opportunity to increase their mathematical subject knowledge and develop effective pedagogies around early years maths teaching. Participants will explore mathematical structures and gain an understanding of how children learn early mathematical concepts.
SESSION 1: Counting and cardinality
SESSION 2: Composition
SESSION 3: Comparison
Within these sessions, we will look at key ideas such as subitising and the development of number sense, and will explore the use of manipulatives, games and routines to help children develop firm foundations and a deep understanding of early maths.
